Pataka Esports Festival (Marketing Coordinator)

Pataka Esports Festival (2025-2026)

From December 2025 to mid-January 2026, I worked for Galint Gaming as a Marketing Coordinator for Pataka Esports Festival, a South Asian video game tournament held at City Hall in Surrey, British Columbia on January 17th. The event was historic with its location inside a municipal city hall and support from city organizations such as Discover Surrey, Sport Surrey, and the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association.

My responsibilities included:

-Managing and scheduling posts to the event's social media pages (X/Twitter, Instagram) alongside a couple of Galint Gaming's pages (Facebook, TikTok). Worked in tandem with the event's graphic designer.

-Posted and boosted the event's main video advertisement across online platforms using Meta Ad Suite and equivalent tools, garnering over 25,000 views combined

-Directing media outreach, successfully getting local articles posted on websites such as Surrey-NOW-Leader + North Delta Reporter, and getting reporters from The Ubyssey and CBC News to attend the event.

-Coordinating advertising outreach, successfully getting a radio advertisement made on Sher-E-Punjab Radio. Additionally connected with various traditional and social media organizations such as Bell Media, Plug Vancouver, and VancouverIsAwesome

-Coordinated poster placing across downtown Vancouver, planning locations and posting posters with a team member.

-Live posted on X/Twitter and Instagram during events, updating attendees and viewers on events starts/conclusions and other updates as requested.

-Assisted with event takedown on the end of the second day, packing TV monitors and moving them.

The Challenge

My biggest challenge with this role came from the social media planning side, as when I signed on, there was a backlog of sponsorship announcement posts that I had to get out the door right away. The problem is that doing all of them so fast made a noticeably corporate tone that disengaged the audience.

Knowing this, I planned ahead and tried to introduce more elements that brought more "audience-first" content to social media, but my plans had to change as graphics fell behind schedule (out my direct control) and more important partnership announcements needed to be posted.

As the event date came closer, things began to pick up again as I was able to introduce more thought out content including a couple of video shorts, and a longer video ad made by an editor commissioned by Galint's CEO. I was able to boost this post across social media as well, garnering over 25,000 views total. Navigating the different ad restrictions across platforms was a new experience as Instagram and Facebook have their own unique rules for boosted posts that I had to spend time navigating.

Final Reflection

The role was overall a good experience for me, as I was able to practice more direct marketing as opposed to just social media marketing. I'm very happy to have been able to get a radio advertisement made alongside other marketing contacts made for Galint's future. Getting the event listed in local news web articles is also something I was glad to be able to coordinate.

A lot of this role was communication, and being able to navigate and keep track of both internal and external communications was critical to being able to complete the role successfully.
